Scrap Friends November Sketch Challege

I've had some Peacock feathers laying around for a while now and not really been sure what to use them for then this challenge came along.

The November Scrap Friends Sketch Challenge.

I especially went and bought a feather stamp from Kaszazz just to do this challenge but I'm pretty sure I'll use it in other projects.

This is my take on the sketch.

I used my love of mixed media at the moment to create the background.

 The feather stamp is just perfect. After I stamped them, I coloured them with water colours, cut them out and lightly edged them with black distress ink.

 The number four is from Tim Holtz's Bingo pieces. They are normally red so I used some black gesso to very carefully change it's appearance.

In order, for the background, I used, Water colour paint then Dylusion spray then dictionary pages I crumpled up and glued down with a two part glue one part water solution and then texture paste on a circle stencil. I've also applied some black Ink stamping and lastly I sprinkled some Perfect Pearls.

Green is my favourite colour, so even if this was a disaster I'd still love it! My fingers are all green and shimmery. So cool :)

Off the Rails Scrapbooking DT contribution "Acetate"

Acetate Challenge

Well here it is, the first challenge for "Off The Rails Scrapbooking". The theme is Acetate and you can check it out HERE.

The prize this fortnight is a $20 voucher from Boys Rule and believe me these kits come in handy. I always find it hard to scrap my boy, but with a kit that's all put together for me. Inspiration flows and the time spent on the project becomes a dream to do rather than a nightmare! Pop over and check them out at Boys Rule blogspot

So here is my DT inspiration piece for the acetate challenge.

 I've used a combination of coordinating papers covering several hexagons, Prima wooden pieces and Prima flowers to decorate this layout along with some stamped butterflies coloured by Tim Holts Distress Markers.

 One of the acetate contributions to this lay out is the Jet Black Stazon Ink stamped Butterfly just under the stamped hot air balloon.

 Another element is the hexagon the coloured butterfly is sitting on. i used a piece of already printed acetate from Kaisercraft and cut it to shape over the already covered hexagon shape.

 The final acetate element is the top layer of the right hand side butterfly. Again stamped with Stazon Ink and stuck with glossy accents to give a layered affect.

Christmas Reindeer

I love making Christmas Decorations almost as much as I love Christmas. When I saw these little fellas in Lincraft I couldn't help myself.

I used Kaisercraft paper cut into little squares to collage over the outside. Then I layered it with white tissue paper and a glue and water mix. it took me ALL day just to do this!

I had heaps of fun giving each little reindeer it's own personality by adding it's special flourish. I've even included some Christmas coloured stamps to their backs. The Tim Holtz's decorative strip die "Festive Greenery"was the perfect die to use for this project.

I also did a little bit of stenciling on their bums!

They'll look good in the middle of my dining room table on Christmas day!

Creative Scrappers November sketch challenge #256

Gorgeous

I wasn't going to do any more challenges this month and then I came across this awesome design and couldn't wait to give it a go.

Here is my take on the challenge sketch from Creative Scrappers No# 256

And some close ups.

I used a doily stencil with texture paste to make up a section of the sketch and then coloured it with Frayed Burlap distress Ink.

Some Prima vines and Kaisercraft wooden leaves sit nicely atop an upcycled old lace doily I picked up from a market. Here you can also see some handy work with a black felt tip pen. I just needed to bring the edge of this section out a little further.

I used my Kaszazz "Reason, Season, Lifetime" stamp. This is a beautiful text stamp. I made a half circle mask from scrap paper so that the image would come out round to match in with the style of the sketch and then stamped the top of it with the tip of a scroll stamp in Victorian Velvet Distress ink to make a scalloped edge also masking to help get the right shape.

I used lots of recycled bits in this project. The yellow hessian looking card stock is the backing card you get in packaging. this one is from some Prima Canvas resist strips I bought and I covered them with the acetate pictures that Tim Holtz uses to present his stamps. I've recently bought stamp holders and arranged all my stamps into usable themes so the result was that I had all these printed acetate pieces left over. Waste not want not!

I love this photo of my daughter with her pink ombre hair. Thank goodness for the teenage selfie and Instagram. If either didn't exist, I wouldn't have no where near as many photos of my adult kids to scrapbook as I do!! Every time I get the camera out they both disappear. My how they have changed.

Scrap Around the World November Challenge - Colourful

I've been busy getting my fingers all inky with this latest challenge from Scrap Around The World.

The inspiration from the mood board struck me immediately. I love the paint pouring from the tins, it makes me want to get my hands in there and moosh it all around (there's the child care educator coming out in me!). So I went with a spilled paint affect.

The colours are so vibrant and it's given me an opportunity to try out ALL of my Dylusions Sprays.

The layout is beautiful. I love the half circles. I imagined them as two rainbows on a rainy sunny day. I turned it around to suit what I wanted to create.

This is what I created.

The 12x12 background paper is a new line from Kaszazz. It has a gloss resist pattern over a standard paper so when it's coloured the pattern resists and stands out.

 Most of the flowers I coloured using the Dylusions. The Half circles are hand drawn on by a medium tip black sharpie pen.

The background is made up of a selection of coordinating papers layered over a water colour painted rainbow.

The black leaves are simply cut out of some black card stock. I also coloured the cheese cloth to match the surrounding flowers along with (and it's a little hard to see) cotton silk thread in coordinating colours.

 I absolutely loved this challenge. These are not colours I have really played with in the past and I can't believe why I hadn't experimented with them before.

My First Design Team

Off the Rails Scrapbooking

So I'm hopping around Facebook, checking out some awesome creations on scrapbooking sights, adding my own for people to check out when Deena messages me on one of my posts to tell me to check my "others" folder in my messages! (I had to google how to do that by the way.......). 

Her message was an invitation to join a new design team coordinated by Amanda Sousa over at "Off The Rails Scrapbooking" . I think I actually squealed! Yeah, in fact, I'm pretty sure I did .........

And now finally I can share it with you........

White with One (Blueberry) November Challenge

My boy

White With One this month have joined with Charms Creations and Creative Scrappers to develop an awesome challenge. I don't often use blue in my designs, let alone blueberry. I contacted Charm and bought some blueberry bits to put into the layout. They are really well made and you can tell Charm puts a lot of love and care into each piece. The layout provided by Creative Scrappers seemed simple enough, that was until I started to put some papers onto the white page background, that's when I realised it was actually quite a challenge. The free digital download pack of blueberry created by Amy Prior, available on the WW1 blog page was a huge help.

This is what I came up with. I had packed all my bits and pieces in my little black carry bag. Carefully chosen the photo and printed off the download from WW1. I did all this because I was off on a camping trip and I love to scrapbook while I'm camping. I got to a beautiful relaxing spot, set up camp, got out my scrapbooking supplies I'd packed and realised I had forgotten to pack double sided tape!!! So this piece has been put entirely together using Gesso, and some glossy accents. Not bad I think.

I've had this photo of my son for a little while now. He's such a clown, he makes me laugh all the time. This is him wearing his sisters glasses. The look on his face sums him up in one! WALLY!

I couldn't wait to use this Marrakesh Chipboard Panel from Blue Fern Studios that I purchased the other week. Such an awesome pattern.

This beautiful chevron is handmade by Charms Creations. I've also used some plastic mesh and sequin mesh along with a Tim Holtz stamp Spill, Finnabair Checkered Clear Stamp along with her Prima Sunrise Sunset Checkered 12x12 stencil. I've also used my favourite "words" stamp, Tim Holtz stamp collection Going Somewhere.

My Happy Place - OUAS November Challenge

My Happy Place

I love a good challenge and Once Upon a Sketch November Challenge was a real treat. Nadia Cannizzo has created a fantastic layout that I really enjoyed following this month. The theme "My Happy Place" was such an easy choice for me as I'm sure it would be for many. I focused on our camper van fondly called "Turtle". Our T-Van is our special place and the best thing about it is that I could be set up in my own back yard or in the most remote part of Australia and it would be a happy place.

I stuck as close to the layout as I thought I should. My journalling is in a different place but overall it has a similar style to what Nadia was looking at achieving with this layout.

The background paper is from Kaisercrafts Duchess collection - Imperial. I've lightly sprayed Dylusions Ink - Squeezed Orange over a chevron 12x12 stencil followed by some white texture paste over a diamond 6x6 stencil. The whole base page is sprayed with Dylusions Ink - White Linen to tame the Squeezed Orange. I love the way this white spray reduces the vibrancy of the coloured sprays and turns them into pale versions of their original colour.

 A combination of Prima Flowers, a hand made paper flower using the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Bigz Die and a pair of Kaszazz chipboard butterflies make up the right hand side collection. I also poked some cheese cloth and vintage twine I collected from a second hand store into the gaps between the flowers.

My journalling is hand written. It's very rough as my hand writing is not that pretty. I've also added some doodling on the page with black marker.

The left side of the photo is trimmed with an old vintage watch face, hessian butterfly and large paper flower.

I really enjoyed creating this layout. I tried some different techniques and got my fingers inky which is always a good indicator of a fun creative time!
