A Painting For Donna Downey's Artist Gang

Hello!!!

This is a very special Artist Gang Tuesday post for me because ONE- It's my birthday and TWO- I'm currently teaching IN PARIS!!!

I've been uber organised with getting my posts finished early and actually painted this one a few weeks ago. I have been bursting at the seams to share it with you all because I just love how it has turned out!

I've painted on a 16"x20" stretched canvas using only a selection of different sized palette knives and some vine charcoal. I do think I use my finger twice.

I've always loved nudes and really wanted to try them out. I am seriously thinking I'll do a series of these now that I've done this one .... and I might even adventurous and try on a bigger substrate.

I used all Golden Heavy Body Acrylic for the body of the painting (no pun intended) and then outlined and created some shadow with the vine charcoal.

Here is a link to the video.

I really must apologize for the angle .... I seriously thought it would work in my head while i was filming and then when it came to editing I was so disappointed with the end result. but I've learnt now so I promise the next one will be so much better.

"Adventure Awaits" A Layout for 7 Dots Studio

Hello everyone. Today I'm here with you today to share a little layout I have created using the fabulous "Cotton Candy Dreams" collection from 7 Dots Studio.

I wanted to make an orange layout with the papers. I had made lots of mint coloured ones and some mint and orange ones but I hadn't yet explored a single monochromatic orange from the collection and was excited to see how it turned out.

The design is a classic one that drops or cascades beautifully down the page. It's always my go to design when I'm struggling for ideas. I have to say the ALL orange did stump me for a bit, but as I got further into the creating it started to flow well.

Once I added the height in the tags and then the charms, I knew it was going to work well. I just love how it all came together and I love the organic feel it has to it.

I hope you have some inspiration to try out an ALL orange layout too. It's not always our go to colour but it is ever so lovely really. Don't you think?

"Timeless" A Layout for 13Arts

Hello! Today I am sharing with you a layout I have created for 13@rts using the stunning "His and Hers" collection designed by the very talented Olga Heldwein.

This design follows one of the trails of the butterflies on this beautiful paper. I painted them with a watered down Matte Pink Ayeeda Paint and then dressed each one up with some Ayeeda Paint in the VIVID Magenta. I either painted it through a stencil or I painted it directly onto some little butterflies I cut out of the "United Forever" paper.

I also added some of the brass clocks from the clock set and the Timeless title from the 12x12 chipboard collection.

I used one of the crocheted doily's I have collected during my thrift store shopping. I just love shopping through old stores and collecting ephemera.

Kraft Plus Challenge for April

Hello! April brings with it another challenge I'm happy to be a part of .... the Kraft Plus challenge team. This month the theme was to use "Paint Swatches" .... yep .... how cool is that??

This is what I made.

I went to my local hardware store and gathered a heap of paint samples in teals and greens, pinks and purple hoping they would all look nice together.

I punched out the butterfly's and loved the look of the cards with the negative so I wanted to incorporate this as well.

Everything on this layout is held down entirely with staples!!
Yes I'm that lazy. The stapler was in front of me so that's what I used!!

It worked well!

LOL!

You can find more info and more inspiration for the challenge HERE!

13 Arts April Challenge

OMG!! Do you know how hard it is to paint an organic shape and not make it look like an alien? I'm not sure I nailed it.

I needed to ask for assistance from my SUPER talented daughter (luckily she was home this weekend) who had to finish off the face details and chest for me ..... I just couldn't quite make them work.

Other than that though ... I'm pretty happy with the rest.

"FREEDOM"

Here is the inspirational board.

The background was easier than anticipated, although I still spent A LOT of time on in. I just love the Ayeeda paints. They are so highly pigmented and have amazing coverage. The background is a blended one. I used my fingers (as I always do). I liked how it ended up organic just like the figure.

A Little Layout for The Dusty Attic

Hello! Today I'm here with you to share a little layout I have created using the gorgeous Dusty Attic Chipboard.

Thank you to my dear friend Louise Nelson for allowing me to use her photo. It's perfect xx

I was inspired by the April moodboard. I had been playing around with my gel press plate and making some prints and this one appeared as a final press. I just loved it and had to use it somehow. The I remembered the moodboard and BAM! it all just fell into place.

I painted the Daisies with some Bisque Dusty Colour so they would seem as if they were coming out of the photo. I gave them a light coating of gesso before hand so when i added a little bit of water to the paint, the white peaked through.

I wanted to create a little bit of interest on the background, but not too much as the print from my Gel plate was very interesting in it's own right. The Dusty Attic Stencil "Creative Script" was just perfect for this. It begins it's sentiment with "There is beauty in simplicity". It is just perfect for this layout!

I finished the layout off with a little title, some gold wire for the border and a little bit of hand drawing so as to emphasise the importance of embracing imperfection.

I hope you like my layout and it inspires you to use your chippy as an extension of your photo like I have. it is heaps cool ..... I'll definitely be trying to do it again! See you all again next time.

Art Journal Video for 13Arts

Hello!! I'm here with you today to share a little process video I have made for 13@rts.

I created an art journal page using lots of different 13@rts mediums and some bits and pieces from both the "Aria Story" and "His and Hers" collections.

This journal page is all bout using up those "left over" bits we have after making our layouts and cards. It also shows how I've incorporated the two collections together with ease.
